How To Use MopTop Curl Enhancer Gel For Your Specific Hair Type
So the buzz around town is that you need to use curl enhancing products for your curls to truly thrive! Feeling stuck on which product to use, or more importantly, how to use it? We’ve got just the trick for you to transform your curls from dull to defined in no time! Why MopTop Curl Enhancer Gel is Right for You! So you know you should be using curl enhancing products, but what exactly will it do for your hair? While specific changes to your curls can depend on your hair type, curl enhancing products in general work to create big curl definition while maintaining a soft hold. This especially rings true for MopTop’s Curl Enhancer Gel! Our gel provides good slip and leaves your hair smelling great. With a citrus medley of lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit essential oils, your hair will feel and smell great while producing springy, fresh curls! Our Curl Enhancer Gel also plays nicely with other products, so it can be used as a base for volume while still supporting additional products in your hair care routine. Top the gel with our MopTop Medium Hold Gel for firm hold without the crunchy, sticky hair, or opt for the MopTop Leave-In Conditioner that allows for extra hydration without compromising your styled curls. How-To for Each Hair Type Now that you know why you need our Curl Enhancer Gel, it’s just as important that you know how to use the product for your specific hair type. Curl enhancing products can work just as well for less dense hair as it does for those with normal to thick density, but in different ways. Finer, Low-density hair For finer hair, MopTop’s Curl Enhancer Gel is the perfect way to give off the illusion that you have more hair. For shoulder length hair of this type, separate your hair into two sections, and work a dime or pea-sized amount of gel into each section for best results. Wavy hair Attention all our wavy girls! Our gel will enhance those curls, especially if you set the hair by using a diffuser. This combo will create a curlier look than you may normally have without them, offering a new way to define and discover your hair’s potential! For medium density hair, start with separating your hair into four sections. Work about a nickel-sized amount of gel into each individual section. If you take the time to thoroughly work the product into your curls, your results will be significantly better! Curly hair Similar to the ladies with wavy hair, those with curly hair will find that pairing the Curl Enhancer Gel with a diffuser will set the hair and create more defined curls. If you don’t already have those defined curls, this combo will prove that you can have bigger curls! For higher density hair, separate the hair into four sections, and start by putting a quarter-sized amount of product in each section. Work the product into the hair in each section for the best results. Another reminder for using this product with dense hair: our gel is water soluble and works great as a base, so experimenting with adding other hair products to the gel is encouraged! Creating your own custom cocktail of hair products is made easy with our Curl Enhancer Gel! Exceptions Everybody’s hair is different, and we get that! There are absolutely exceptions when it comes to hair care, so some individuals may need more or less product than others. We suggest that you start with our suggested amounts of Curl Enhancer Gel depending on your hair type, and then you can always go back in and add more if you deem it necessary. It’s best to start with less so you can build the product. Our hope is that you avoid feeling like you have more product than hair on your head! Our founder, Kelly, ended up with bigger curls when using this product, especially when she just air dried her shoulder-length curls. Though this was Kelly's experience with the product and every hair type will be different, we encourage you to play with the amount you use and your technique. If you have any questions, we are here to help!

As children, we think of superheroes as mythical figures who save our favorite character’s lives during Saturday morning cartoons. The amazing thing is, we walk amongst real life heroes every day; but more often than not… they remain undercover! This blog is all about highlighting a few of the many [S]HEROES in our MopTop family and inspiring to celebrate your own heroic qualities! What makes you feel like a SHERO? “Being a working mother and wife with a demanding career! My family always comes first, and I take great pride in managing my priorities in order to be the best wife, mom and career woman possible.” “I have a very demanding full-time public health career and also have my hands full with the pleasure of being a blogger talking about food, hair, overall health and now pregnancy since I am in my second trimester with my second. Of course, being a mom and wife is what gives me most joy in life!” “What makes me feel like a shero is actually embracing the hair that I am fearfully and wonderfully made with. For the longest time I thought against the hair that grew out of my head. Now I embrace the wave and roll with it. Not only that, but I have the opportunity to help others embrace their hair as well. Watching others hair transform and seeing their joy makes my heart sing!” “I’m a healthcare worker doing what I can to navigate through these hard times while helping my patients feel safe in my care. I’ve also been a “learning mentor” to my younger step-daughter this year, acting as her part-time algebra 2 teacher. I’m actually surprised how much I still remember from high school! For my older step-daughter, I’m trying my best to teach the importance of mental health by leading by example. This past year has been tough and it’s wearing on us all. I never want her to feel like she’s alone in her feelings and frustrations. In my free time, I can be found on Instagram as a textured hair mentor of sorts. I started learning to care for my wavy hair at the end of 2018 and have learned a lot along the way. I try my best to help encourage and support others curious about embracing their natural curl pattern. I love being able to share my experiences with others to help them on their journey.” It is the actions we carry out every single day that allow us to feel like a hero! Skip the wash, keep the style. While the merriest time of the year can also be the busiest, that doesn’t mean your hair has to suffer! After years and years of trial and error, our team of curl experts trusts this three-step process to make the MOST out of their wash days! It all starts with, you guessed it, our Curly Hair Custard! Your best 2nd and 3rd day hair can’t happen without a great washday, so that is where we start. After your normal washday routine, apply curly hair custard section by section to wet hair. Remember, a little goes a long way! If you find that the product flakes when dried or there is residue left on your scalp after application, this is a sign to use less next time around. After applying, let your hair get to almost dry (70-80% dry) before scrunching out the cast. Whether you wash in the morning or at night, sleep with your hair in a protective covering. Any tossing and turning done during the night can wreak havoc on your hair – not only in terms of your curl pattern, but also can cause major frizz! Our favorite items for sleeping in protective mode are satin pillowcases and bonnets. Sleeping with satin protection helps smooth frizzy hair and minimizes static- waking up with less frizz is always a good way to start the day! As much as we wish sleeping with our hair protected was the solution for perfect 2nd and 3rd day hair, we have a few more steps ‘til we get there! Upon waking, use a spray bottle filled with water to spray hair and reactivate product from the day before. For extra revitalization, mix up 1 part Curly Hair Custard with 2 parts water (ratio will vary from texture to texture, play with it!). At this point, it’s safe to say that our Curly Hair Custard is absolutely necessary to achieving your best 2nd and 3rd day hair. Lucky for you, we have plenty of it ;)

Dream job, loving family, great circle of friends… all the makings of a thriving woman that are inevitably overshadowed by the emotional turmoil associated with hair loss. I don’t say this as an outsider- I say it as someone who has experienced temporary hair loss first hand. MopTop was created with strong intentions of educating women on how they can most out of their texture without causing harm to their locks. While my temporary hair loss was caused by the build up of ingredients in products and sebum (an oily, waxy substance that our body produces), hair loss has a wide range of causes and will vary from person to person! (To combat product build up on hair, try MopTop’s Detox Shampoo.) Hormones Product Build-Up Massive Stress or Big Event Medications Health Issues Hereditary Before we dive into each of the above and how they may cause hair loss, we have to make one thing clear! There is a difference between shedding (seeing your hair on the floor, your hair brush, shower, etc.) and hair loss. Hair shedding, which can be excessive, is normal! And often temporary. Hair loss, on the other hand, may be happening if you begin to notice thinner-than-normal spots on your head, a wider part, or even bald patches. We are not medical professionals here at MopTop, we’ll stick to the science of hair care! However, we are here to provide you with information that may be helpful in determining what could be causing your hair loss. We encourage you to take this information and meet with a health professional who can help you find the best solution. Hormones In both men and women, hormonal changes are the most common cause of hair loss. The hormone responsible for hair loss is actually the same for both sexes. Known as “DHT”, dihydrotestosterone is produced as a byproduct of testosterone. Our bodies use testosterone as a precursor for several other hormones, one of which is DHT. DHT alters your hairline by shrinking the hair follicle, which cause the hairs to eventually stop growing like normal and fall out. Hormonal hair loss is referred to as androgenic alopecia, AKA female-pattern hair loss. The good news here is that androgenic alopecia is treatable! Product Build Up MopTop is silicon free! Many hair products contain waxy ingredients (like silicon) that can stick to and cause build up on your scalp if not properly rinsed out when washing your hair. Have you ever noticed build up or residue around your shower drain? Now imagine that on your scalp! The same kind of products that cause build up in your shower or bath may also be causing that on your head… yikes! If you have been keeping up with curly hair news over this past year, you may have heard that certain products were suspected of causing hair loss. It is actually more likely that users have not been properly educated on how the detox their hair (resulting in a healthy scalp), so we are here to do just that! We recommend staying away from products containing silicone and using MopTop’s Detox Shampoo once every 4-6 weeks. This not only keeps your scalp healthy and free of buildup, but also helps prime your hair to better absorb moisture and color! Massive Stress or Big Event In other words, 2020. But really… what qualifies as massive stress? A loss of a friend or loved one, a divorce, or another major, negative live event. While one bad day at work certainly isn’t welcome, it likely will not cause hair loss. Severe, lengthy stress – such as emotions felt by the global pandemic, for instance, certainly qualify. Stress induced hair loss is also known as telogen effluvium. It is abrupt, temporary, and oddly enough… doesn’t usually begin until about 3 months after the inciting event. The good news, though, is that after your body recovers, your hair growth will return to normal! Medications Hair loss caused by medications, like any of the above-mentioned causes, can have a very real effect on your self-esteem. Luckily in most cases, it is reversible once you stop taking the medication. DO NOT stop taking any medication unless instructed by a medical professional. Health Issues One of the most common health issues associated with hair loss is trouble with your thyroid. This hair loss is observed as an overall thinning of the hair rather than in specific areas. More often than not, regrowth is successful as the thyroid disorder is treated. This can take a couple months, but it is possible! If you choose to go get your thyroid checked, be sure to get all 3 panels checked for the most complete evaluation! Hereditary There are a lot of things we can be thankful for that we inherit from our elders. Hair loss… is not one of them. Hereditary hair loss reduces the amount of time the hair actively spends growing. There is no cure for this type of hair loss, but it is possible to slow or stop the process! If you are experiencing hair loss, we want you to know that we are here for you! We hope this was helpful in determining what may be the cause of your hair loss and take you one step closer to finding a solution. As always, remember your beauty comes from within and YOU are what makes you beautiful!

Learn moreWhy JunkFree Hair?
Here at MopTop Hair, we pride ourselves on creating a product line that is comprised of all-natural, chemical-free ingredients. Our goal is to have as little impact on the earth AND your body as possible - because less chemicals not only does wonders for your curls, but your health as well. As you have likely heard in the Curly Hair Community, it is preached over and over that you should not use any products with chemicals in your curly hair routine – but why is this? In this blog we’re breaking down why you should steer clear of certain ingredients and then go into more detail of what you will not find in MopTop Hair products! In the CG method or CGM, you do not use any hair products with sulphates, silicones, mineral oil, waxes, or drying alcohols in your curly hair routine. Many of these ingredients strip your hair of its natural oils, making it hard to find your best bounce! So what exact ingredients are NOT found in MopTop Hair? Let’s take a look: NO Sulfates: Sulfates are harsh cleansing agents that can quickly dry out hair, increase the likelihood of fading color, and leave you with tangles and frizz. When you rinse out the shampoo, sulfates take all the oils and residue with them. NO Silicones or Waxes: Silicones and waxes create buildup on the hair shaft and can only be removed by stripping the hair and all the natural oils that keep hair hydrated. NO Alcohol or Dyes: Alcohol depletes hair of its natural moisture, and while synthetic dyes may make products look pretty, they coat hair with harmful junk. NO Parabens* or Phthalates: Parabens are preservatives that give products an extra-long shelf life, while phthalates are used in synthetic fragrances that irritate the scalp. *Except in the Salon Daily Conditioner If you are suffering from hair loss or unhealthy hair growth and think chemicals such as the ones mentioned above may be to blame, try switching to a natural alternative such as MopTop Hair. You can also try taking natural supplements that contain plant-derived ingredients that work synergistically to help your natural hair growth! *Important note: Because products without the above ingredients do not strip hair of oils and build up, a detox treatment every 4-6 weeks is necessary for curly hair health. Try MopTop Detox Shampoo!*
