MopTop Product Application: A Little Goes A Long Way
Styling Product: Application 101 Have you ever heard “More is Better”? Well, NOT with everything! A question I am often asked by new clients who’ve had application issues is, “Did I use too much styler?” Oftentimes, the answer is a resounding YES! Most of MopTop’s styling products are gel-based, so if you use too much product, the product can dry out and flake on the hair. There are several variables that come into play here. You know your hair better than anyone, so let’s break it down and figure out the appropriate amount for you. Tell Me About Your Hair When consulting with a customer, I always ask the same questions: – What is the texture pattern of your hair?* Straight, wavy, curly, kinky-coily and/or a combination pattern– What is the length and density of your hair (number of hairs per square inch)?* How long is your hair?* When you put your hair into a ponytail, how big is it? (e.g., diameter of a pencil? Dime? Quarter?)* Small pony=thin or fine, medium pony= average, big pony = thick, a lot of hair!– Do you color your hair? What color?* Black, Dark Brown and Red are the largest color molecules and “slip” the fastest.* Bleach opens up the cuticle the most.– What is your hair porosity?* High Porosity – if your hair gets wet very fast and dries very fast (without any products on your hair)* Low Porosity – if your hair is slow to get wet and dries very slowly once wet (without any products on your hair) So WHAT does this all mean? Well, very simply, our hair is unique, much like our thumb prints, but a general rule of thumb is the more hair you have, the more product you will use. You may need to experiment a little to figure out the perfect balance of products to get the best “formula” and, more importantly, the BEST RESULTS for your hair! Know this, I have three girls with LOTS of hair among them, which could mean we use lots of product. However, with all of this in mind, I chose to make our products as concentrated as possible… which means A Little Bit Goes a LONG Way! Another plus – all products are water soluble, so if you use too much (and get white flakes) you can do a quick fix – dilute with a little spritz of water, use less next time, AND – the BEST PART – you can get great 2nd and 3rd day hair! With three kids, four if you count my cute hubby, I sometimes (quite often, actually) don’t have enough time to go through the whole routine everyday! Kelly’s Routine Sounds great, right? But you may be asking where do I start? To help illustrate what I’ve shared above, here’s how I would answer these questions for myself:1. Texture: Curly/Kinky-Coily [3c-4a]2. Length: Mid-back; Density: Medium3. Color: Yes, both low and high lights4. Porosity: High For Styling I use the LOC Method (Leave-In, Oil, Custard):1st: On WET hair, apply a quarter- to a half dollar-size of Leave-in2nd: 3-4 drops of Mongongo Oil3rd: Apply a nickel- to a quarter-size of Curly Hair Custard For the Curly Hair Custard, I apply root to end, making sure all sections and strands are covered, scrunch and DO NOT touch until 80% dry, whether diffused or air dried (curls are friends and they LIKE to be together while they “Set”), then I scrunch and go. General Guidelines Texture: the more curly or tighter the texture, the wetter your hair should be when applying a styler (so wavy hair can be damp) AND wavy, curly and tighter coiled hair will use more product.Length: The longer the hair, the more product you will use.Color: If too much product is applied to darker hair, flaking will be easier to see. Use a spray water bottle to dilute, and next time don’t use as much!Porosity: A lower porosity hair will use less of our gel -based products, and more of our cream-based products and oil. Remember: A Little Goes a Long Way, even with a lot of hair, so try applying with a light-hand until you understand how the products will work in your hair! Learn moreSplitting Hairs: The Myths and Truths About Head Lice
Don’t Be Nice to Lice! So, the kids are back in school and the dust has finally settled. Our routine is established, the kids are waking up without too much fuss, and making it to school on time and with everything they need in their backpacks (for the most part!). Now we need to turn our attention to the reality of head lice and its pervasive “heebie-jeebie” reach throughout our schools. I happen to know an expert in the field of lice prevention and treatment in the Dallas-Fort Worth area named Beth Kirschner, of Lice Lifters DFW, who uses an ALL-NATURAL approach to kill head lice (we love natural methods!). She is guest blogging for me this week on this very important and often misunderstood topic that affects thousands each year. To learn more or to pose a question to Beth, please visit her website. Hair Lice: Fact and Fiction As a mom who’s daughter has had head lice 10 times, yes really, I get it! After attempting to rid my kids of lice through various and sundry means with no success, I learned a lot about what works best. In fact, the experience led me to open my first Lice Lifters Treatment Center in Frisco last year. We have been so blessed to help so many families in the past year that we have expanded and now have opened our second treatment center in Southlake to help cater to the Tarrant County Metroplex. Myth Busters Part of our mission at Lice Lifters is to make a difference by spreading the truth about lice, how we get them, and how to get rid of them. Nevertheless, myths abound in popular culture, and well-intentioned parents find themselves bombarded with falsehoods on a regular basis. Today, let’s take a look at some of the most common myths surrounding lice and dispel them once and for all. MYTH #1: Lice prefer dirty hair. Not true! These creatures are equal opportunity and do not discriminate on the basis of shampooing frequency. In fact, lice may be more likely to infect clean hair because it is easier to attach to a squeaky-clean hair shaft. MYTH #2: Lice can infest your home. False! Lice can only live away from a human host for 24-36 hours – they can’t even live on your pets. The eggs, or nits, cannot survive if not attached to a hair shaft. That said, excessive cleaning measures in the home are simply not necessary. A good vacuuming and hot tumble in the dryer for any bedding or stuffed animals should be sufficient. MYTH #3: Lice like long hair. Sure, lice like long hair – and short hair as well! Bottom line: boys or girls with short hair are not protected from lice any more than those with long tresses. Even kids with buzz cuts can get lice! If there’s an outbreak in your area, check long- and short-haired family members with equal scrutiny. MYTH #4: If I’m not itchy, I can’t have lice. Wrong! Only about half of people who carry lice experience stereotypical head scratching. It is lice bites more than the lice themselves that cause itching, and it can take 3 to 4 weeks for the bites to become an issue. If one family member is diagnosed with lice infection, have everyone checked regardless of symptoms – mom and dad, too! What is Lice? A louse (singular for Lice) has three life stages – egg, nymph, and adult. Once a female louse lays its eggs, or nits, it can take more than a week for them to hatch. The nymph is an immature insect that takes a week to reach adulthood. A mature female louse can lay up to 6 eggs per day. Once mature, an adult louse can live up to 30 days on a human head with regular feedings of blood – yuck! What is a Nit? Nits are lice eggs laid by the adult louse at the base of the hair strand near the scalp. Nits are firmly attached to the hair shaft and are oval-shaped and very small and can be difficult to see. They are held onto the hair strand with a kind of “glue” that can make them difficult to remove. Nit Facts Head lice nits usually take about 8–9 days to hatch. Millions of Americans, approximately 10-12 million, will become infested with lice on a yearly basis. If all nits are not removed, another outbreak is likely. Get the Nit! Preventative Measures If your child has long hair, we encourage them to put their hair up in one braid or a bun to keep contact away from other kids heads. Encourage your kids to bring their own pillows at overnights and not share brushes or hats with their friends. As a parent, be watchful. When your child comes back from overnight event or from spending time at a friend’s house, know that nits are more easy to see in natural light, so feel free to see if you notice any nits on your child’s scalp. Taking that extra moment to look things over could save you and your family from a lice outbreak. Don’t use selfie sticks! In our culture of all cell phone selfies, it’s no wonder so many of our kids deal with head lice. Since lice are transferred by direct head-to- head contact, this is a no brainer. Put the selfie stick away and keep your heads apart! Please visit Lice Lifters for more information on all-natural treatment options.
Learn moreEssential Tools for Easier Hair Care
Every time I talk “hair” to a group, I am asked what essential tools everyone should have at home and how to use them. Here are some of my favorites – toolbelt optional! (L. to R.) Wet brush, front and back, diffuser, wide-toothed comb, basic t-shirt Detangling I use one of three tools to detangle my own hair and the hair of my children. TIP: Hair is most FRAGILE and elastic when wet, so regardless of what you detangle with, do NOT force any tool through wet hair – if you push too hard, you will break your hair. – On-the-Go Detangling – One tool not pictured? My hands. These “wide-toothed combs” are always with me and I can tell best when I run into a tangle (and I also don’t have to waste time searching for them in my purse!). – Smaller Tangles – The second is a Wide-Toothed Comb, which works nicely to identify the resistance of smaller tangles and work through them. – Gentle Detangling – The third is one of my favorites! A Wet Brush with holes in the back of the brush to allow any water to drain out (more sanitary!). The design of the bristles is genius, too – they are short and gentle, so there is more “give” when it goes through a tangle for less breakage. The wet brush is the gentlest tool, especially for kids or tender-headed adults. This brush is truly only designed to be used on wet hair or hair with conditioner on it, which also makes detangling easier – the more slip the better. For hair that is particularly tangled and knotted, apply a generous amount of conditioner to wet hair and let it sit a couple of minutes to help soak in and make it easier to detangle. Drying Basic Cotton T-shirt – I use a t-shirt to blot dry my hair instead of a towel because the nubs on the towel can rough up the cuticle and cause more frizz. Also, it does not absorb too much of the moisture out of my hair. My hair performs best when it has more moisture in it. A GENERAL Rule of Thumb: the tighter the coil/texture, the wetter your hair should be when applying a styler and usually you use a little more product than someone with less texture. NOTE: if you are using our products you do NOT have to be too heavy handed, our products are more concentrated Salon Performance, Natural Confidence! Additionally since they are water soluble you can get great 2nd and third day hair easily with a spray bottle of water! Plopping Same Basic Cotton T-shirt (a two-for-one tool!) – Lay the t-shirt on your bed, flop your damp head/hair down onto the t-shirt, and then wrap the t-shirt around your head and tie it back with the sleeves, turban-style. Both short-sleeve and long-sleeve t-shirts work for plopping. (A more detailed blog on plopping coming soon!) Setting Diffuser – I prefer a bowl-shaped universal diffuser to dry/set my hair when I choose not to air-dry. The bowl shape seems to work best for me because it reduces friction because the hair is cupped into the bowl, along with the taller “fingers” that help keep the hair from moving too much. When I diffuse, my hair will have a little more volume than when I just let it air dry. For people with a wavy or less-curly texture, you can create a little more texture by diffusing after applying a little gel or custard and using the diffuser to “set” the texture. When you let your hair air-dry, it may can appear more stretched out and less texture due to the weight of the water and product in your hair. If there is a specific topic you would like for us to cover, please let us know! Have a beautiful day!
Learn moreGet the Junk Out with Clarifying Shampoo
Reversing the Chlorine Blues Last week I blogged about my daughter's recent bout with the "Chlorine Blues" (chlorine build-up that results in dry, tacky, green hair). Like most people, I'm a sucker for before and afters, and especially for happy endings. Here's a reminder of our BEFORE photo from last week: These are the three simple steps we took to tackle the blues and restore her hair to its soft and clean natural state. Step 1 – Get the JUNK out! - I felt her hair when it was dry and it felt tacky due to chlorine build-up, yet slimy when wet. (Tip #1 - I did this so I could compare what her hair felt like before and after we had clarified to better understand when product build-up begins to appear and it's time to clarify – once a month should do the job!) - I massaged her wet head to activate the sebaceous glands, then applied about a dime to nickel sized portion of the Clarifying Rescue Treatment (our Super Detox Shampoo). - After massaging the super shampoo in, we let it set on her hair for a couple of minutes. This allows the product time to effectively grab onto and remove the chlorine build-up when rinsed. (Tip #2: More build-up may require multiple treatments.) - Then I rinsed and blotted her hair dry with a t-shirt. Once the chlorine build-up was removed, her hair felt soft and clean. Step 2 – Rehydrate the Hair - I applied a GENEROUS amount of the MopTop Natural Daily Conditioner, which has GREAT SLIP, then detangled with a Wet Brush. - Then I clipped her hair on top of her head, covered with a shower cap, and added heat with the hood dryer. (Tip #3: I bought my hood dryer at Sally Beauty - the first one lasted 10 years! This is the second one, and it's huge and not too pretty, but an awesome investment!) - We heated her hair for 15-20 minutes at as high a heat as she could stand to open the cuticle and allow the moisture to further penetrate the hair shaft, then removed the heat and let it cool naturally. - When her hair was cool, we rinsed it in cool water and applied the Curly Hair Custard. This product works well as a good cutting solution, too! We used the hood dryer for an ADDITIONAL 10 minutes to help "set" the curls before trimming! Step 3 – Clean Up the Ends - I then trimmed the chlorine-damaged and old, dead tips curl by curl. She LOVES the new shape and cleaned up ends! (Tip #4 – Cleaned up ends make styling so much easier.) It's a tell-tale sign when your hair starts to tangle too easily that it's time for a trim. YOU can do the in-between maintenance trims if you are comfortable with them, but you MUST get a decent pair of shears to trim the hair, not just any pair of scissors. If you are NOT comfortable or it's time for a professional, find someone that specializes in textured hair! It may be a little expensive, but it will be worth it! Remember - most textured clients do not get their hair cut that often, so make sure you find someone good that you trust! Step 4 - Happy Curls = Happy Girls - Enjoy your clean, re-set hair – and embrace your natural beauty!

The Chlorine Blues (Or Greens…) This has been a busy summer for me and my family, from camp to mission trip to lake to ocean to pools… and even though we have more products at our disposal than most families, AND we “know” how to use them, my kids are still kids and we often end up with chlorine build-up and greenish hair by the end of the summer. It is the conundrum of the shoemaker’s children, only with hair! Going Green is Good – Except in Hair! I am all about being as green as possible. In my family, we use natural products, we conserve water and energy, we re-use and recycle and really try to limit our environmental footprint. However, I draw the line at green hair! In addition to providing the hair products in our household, I am also chief hair-trimmer for my children. Here’s a sample of when I know it’s time to reach for the super detox shampoo… AND the shears. This is my youngest daughter’s hair, the result of hair that has marinated in chlorine for a good chunk of the summer. It is tacky with build-up when dry, slimy-feeling when wet, it does not detangle well, her naturally curly ends are both straightening and splitting, AND it has a green hue. We need to trim back to the healthy hair shaft, but a haircut only solves part of the problem. FIRST and foremost, we need to address the residue on her hair from chlorine. You might be thinking to yourself, “Hey, I thought you had a great Super Detox Shampoo (a.k.a. Clarifying Rescue Treatment) in your house and office! Indeed, I do and we do – and, again, I refer you to the tale of the shoemaker’s children… The dialog at home goes something like this: ME: Why is your hair green? Haven’t you been conditioning before swimming? When is the last time you clarified?THEM: Hmm?ME: Seriously. Your. Hair. Is. Green. It’s not like you don’t have access to quality, clean products!THEM: Mom…ME: REALLY, everyone is looking at your hair and saying, “Eewww green!” Can you just put some leave-in or regular conditioner in BEFORE you get in the pool?THEM: MOM!! OK, help me fix it!! Clarify, Re-Set, Renew, Repeat! When you know better, you do better, so taking preventative measures is the recommended course of action. Quite simply, clarify hair of build-up once every 4-6 weeks to restore it to its most natural state, in essence “re-setting” the hair. Additionally, throughout the summer (or all year long if you’re swimmer), apply leave-in conditioner or a daily-use conditioner to hair before going into the pool. This will help reduce the extent of damage that can be caused by chlorine by coating the hair strands protectively, in the same way we use sunblock to protect our skin. Here Are 5 Easy Steps to Re-Set Your Hair Step 1: Wet hair with warm water. Massage scalp before adding a product, feel how “slimy” the hair strands are so you’ll be able to compare to the feel of your hair after clarifying.Step 2: Use a dime- to quarter-size portion of Detox Shampoo/Clarifying , depending on amount and texture of your hair . Massage and leave on hair for a couple of minutes, then rinse.Step 3: Feel how clean the hair is – the strands should no longer feel “slimy”.Step 4: Condition, condition, condition, then detangle. Let conditioner set a couple of minutes on hair, then rinse with cool water.Step 5: Style as usual. Another benefit you will find by doing this “Reset” with your hair is your hair will perform better without the build-up and you will use less product. And, finally, hair coated with chlorine will dull the shears of your favorite stylist, so by clarifying on a regular basis, you’re not only being kind to your hair, but also kind to your stylist! OK, so we have some work to do with this hair – first to clarify, then to trim. I’ll post the AFTER picture next week!
Learn moreSavor Your Summer: Anti-Frizz Shortcuts
Fighting Frizz... ...Doesn't have to take all day - try these shortcuts to tame the frizz, make your hair healthier, and build some time back into your day for summer fun! Time: The Lost Commodity First and foremost I am a Mom. As other Moms know, that means we put ourselves last in just about everything (except first up in the morning to get everyone else going for the day!). While it's easy to lament what it means to be a Mommy Martyr, it's so much more rewarding to share ideas on how to make the most of our time, shortcuts that work, and ways to make each day simpler and better lived. In short, to help each other! As the heat and humidity of summer linger, here are ways to help eliminate frizz to make your hair more manageable and give you time to add in a few extra yoga poses or to relish an undisturbed cup of coffee, rather than fighting frizz. Bedtime Tips - Clipping or Plopping - Try putting your hair in a clip on top of your head and sleeping on a satin pillowcase with a satin ponytail holder on, OR - Try plopping. Plopping is when you shampoo, condition, and apply styling products to your hair, but instead of drying or diffusing, you lay a cotton t-shirt on your bed, lean your head down AS IF you're going to wrap a towel turban-style around your head, but INSTEAD wrap the t-shirt around your head, using the "arms" to tuck it into place (long-sleeves work better). This reduces friction and frizz, and the hair stays in the curl pattern you want and also dries overnight. Do not try plopping with a towel, as this takes out more moisture than you want and can also cause breakage. LOCing or Twisting - Try the MopTop LOC method. This is using Leave-In Conditioner, Oil (in our case, Mongongo Oil) and Curly Hair Custard. This method works to condition, moisturize, eliminate frizz, and provide curl definition. It can be used in general, or also works prior to plopping. - Rather than scrunching, after applying your desired styling product try twisting your hair into the desired curl pattern you want and then when 90% dry, release it from the twists. Re-Wet to Reactivate Curls without Washing - For cleansing, we have both a gentle sulfate-free shampoo and a co-wash cleansing conditioner. Our products are water-soluble, so they're great for 2nd and 3rd day hair, in that you can re-wet the hair and reactivate the ingredients to freshen your curls, without additional shampooing. Spritz, scrunch, and let nature do the rest. - You could also try leaving a little bit of the co-wash conditioner in your hair when washing it - so instead of rinsing it out completely, leave enough in so that your hair is a little slick and slimy, but not white. This may provide you with some of the moisture you want and help eliminate frizz. Experiment to get the right amount for your texture. Anti-Frizz Stylers - For great hold and volume, we recommend our Medium Hold Gel. Our Curly Hair Custard is also great for hold and is a little more moisturizing, but it is also a little weightier, so choose the best styling product for your hair texture. If you have an uneven curl pattern (i.e., one side is curlier than the other), the Curly Hair Custard might not work as well as the Medium Hold Gel. For uneven curl patterns, try either the gel or custard on the weaker side from HALF-WAY DOWN the hair shaft to the hair ends to see how it does and then you'll be able to adjust accordingly on the stronger curl side to achieve a more unified curl pattern. - For dry, frizzy or flyaway ends, apply a few drops of Mongongo Oil to hair to smooth over the ends (do not apply directly to hair - rub the drops between your hands for a more even application without making hair look coated). This would be done BETWEEN cleansing/conditioning and applying styling products, and can be applied to either wet or dry hair. If you have more textured hair and your hair tends to get frizzy higher up, you may also rub 1-2 drops of Mongongo Oil between your hands, then lightly smooth over the hair, from mid-shaft down to tame frizz and add shine to hair. This is another product where a little bit goes a long way.
Learn moreFive Tips for Healthy, Color-Treated Hair
Color Me Healthy-Haired Most women have experimented with hair color at some stage, and I'm no different. I love the way extra highlights or color can give hair more depth and lightness or shadow, or transform your whole outlook. I started highlighting my hair after college. Caring for it took some trial and error, but over the years this is what I've found works to keep my color longer, more vibrant, and with minimal damage. Five Tips for Longer-Lasting Color 1. Clarify your hair before coloring. Clarifying re-sets and detoxifies the hair, so the color applies directly to the hair shaft, not the build-up that may be coating the hair. 2. Use a deep conditioner BEFORE applying color, and again AFTER the color has been on about 24 hours. I apply Deep Conditioner to my dry hair, cover with a shower cap, heat with a hood dryer for 15-20 minutes, allow it to cool naturally, then rinse and style as usual. You can also substitute with a wet towel placed in the microwave to heat it up. 3. Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates strip hair and prematurely fade color. 4. Avoid shampooing and water as much as possible to retain color longer. 5. Avoid heat tools. Embrace your natural beauty!
Learn moreMuch Ado About How We Shampoo
How Often Should I Shampoo My Hair? Ask someone how often they shampoo their hair and it can be akin to asking how much they weigh or who they’re going to vote for this fall. It’s personal. Everyone’s hair is different, from texture to porosity to the amount of natural oils they produce, so the frequency of shampooing is also different. Whether you shampoo daily (tsk tsk!), every 2-3 days, or only co-wash, the goal we all have is CLEAN HAIR, but sometimes we focus too much on lather. Does Lather Matter? Let me expel a myth for you. Lather does NOT equal clean. The way shampoo works is that it encapsulates or grabs hold of the oil and dirt on the hair and then washes it down the drain. Think PacMan eating power pellets (whompah-whompah-whompah). If there is NOT a lot of lather, the shampoo is doing its job, collecting the oil and dirt, and cleansing the hair. If there IS a lot of lather, that means there wasn’t a lot of oil or dirt on the hair to be cleaned, or that your shampoo contains sulfates (harsh detergents found in laundry soap, dish detergents, etc.), which create lots of suds. Gentle Shampoo, Co-Wash, and Clarifying Rescue Treatment Our naturally formulated shampoos are low-lather. Rather than using sulfates (which have an abundance of lather) in our shampoos, we opt for a more natural cleaning agent – honey. Honey helps keep hair cleaner, longer. If you were a duck in an oil spill, you’d want a shampoo or detergent with sulfates to strip off the oil. For a more gentle, natural clean, opt for MopTop. MopTop Gentle Shampoo – for every day use MopTop Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner – for second- and third-day hair MopTop Clarifying Rescue Treatment (CRT) – our “super” shampoo – designed to remove yucky build-up caused by minerals, silicone, chlorine, shea butter, or other product build-up And in the spirit of something for everyone, we also offer a tear-free shampoo from our natural children’s haircare line. Embrace your natural beauty! Kelly
Learn moreDefy Humidity for Beautiful Beach Wave Curls: Cocktail Leave-In & Curly Hair Custard
Frizz Is My Business I've long said that I've never met frizz I couldn't tame, even just a little. A week at the beach has confirmed that fact, while also serving as a reminder that we occasionally need to adapt to our environment and re-think how we use our products to get the best performance from our hair. My philosophy is usually that less is more – use only what you need to achieve your most natural-looking desired results, but sometimes more IS more. Hair is like a fingerprint. No two people have the same hair. Likewise, hair has its own personality and our process and products that give fantastic results in one climate don't always translate to another. So it's really OK (and highly recommended!) to re-think products and application when you venture away from home. Adaptation is Key My daughter has inherited a variation of my curls, although she has longer, looser wavy curls. When we are home in Texas, her routine to keep her curls defined, moisturized, and frizz-free is fairly simple - shampoo, apply leave-in conditioner, and allow to air dry naturally or diffuse. However, after a few days enduring 100% humidity on the East coast, combined with the extra beating of wind, sun, sea, and chlorine, frizz reared its unruly head and we had to adapt to our environment by changing up the routine. The solution? It was all in the "layering" and adding another product! TIP: You should always test products on your hand before you try them in your hair to make sure they "Play Nice"! This tip applies for "Cocktailing" too (not of the happy hour variety!). Cocktailing is a common term for mixing haircare products to achieve the desired result. Typically, my daughter's hair would not be considered a candidate for Curly Hair Custard because while she has lots of wavy hair, it's long and her curls are stretched out, so the leave-in conditioner has been her go-to product for both moisturizing and styling. When humidity, wind, and frequent water exposure started to cause frizz, we experimented with adding Curly Hair Custard into the rotation. Steps to Create Beach Waves Here's how it worked - she started the day with her normal routine of Leave-In Conditioner. Then after spending a few hours in the water and while her hair was still wet, she separated her hair into 4 sections of hair (she has a ton of hair!) and applied about a half-ounce of Curly Hair Custard to her wet hair about an inch from the roots and worked her way down. She detangled with her fingers, but a wide-toothed comb would have sped up the process. The Curly Hair Custard has great slip, so this worked well. Then she scrunched her hair and let it air dry. The result was awesome beach waves, with NO FRIZZ, that lasted throughout the day. Before After More TIPS for the Pool or Beach! Always put Leave-in Conditioner or Daily Conditioner in your hair before getting into the water. Your hair works like a sponge, so you want to fill the sponge (your hair) with good stuff (Leave-in Conditioner or Daily Conditioner) BEFORE getting into the water. This will help keep you from getting damage from chlorine. Chlorine will leave your hair with a slimy film and can discolor it as well. If your hair is color treated and you are getting into the ocean, it helps protect the color as well. A great benefit is getting to use the products in combination with the sun to pamper your tresses by conditioning! It's a good idea to re-apply just like you would your sunscreen to keep your hair at its optimum moisture level. If you or your kids are not as diligent as you had hoped to protect your hair from the chlorine, don't sweat it! You can use our Super DETOX shampoo . . .the Clarifying Rescue Treatment to get the junk out and reset your hair!!! So, a toast to the natural elements (sun! wind! sea!) and another to cocktailing the right combination of products for your very best results - and keeping those beautiful beach waves all day!
